What is it about?
This dynamic and comprehensive training is designed to enhance your ability to facilitate DBT skills groups effectively. Building on the foundational knowledge you've gained from basic DBT skills training, this program will equip you with essential tools and techniques for teaching these skills to clients in a group setting.
Many DBT trainings emphasize the four modules of skills—mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness—yet they often fall short in providing actionable strategies for group instruction and management. This is where our training excels. You will explore how to structure group sessions, engage clients, and adapt your teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of participants.
Throughout the training, you will learn best practices for creating a supportive and effective group environment. I will guide you in developing your teaching style, using interactive and experiential learning methods that resonate with clients. By the end of the program, you will feel confident in your ability to lead DBT skills groups and foster a collaborative learning atmosphere that encourages growth and development for all participants. Join us to enhance your skills and make a positive impact in your practice!
Identify the differences between adherent and non-adherent DBT.
Plan a group session, gradually introduce skills in each module, and decide on homework assignments and timing.
Understand the differences between "what" and "how" skills and four ways to teach them to clients. You will learn what wise mind is and how to use a wise mind t-chart.
Identify the three functions of emotions and guide clients on using the emotions inventory. Describe the components of an emotion and explain how to use the "checking the facts" skill, opposite action, and problem-solving. Participants will also learn to teach the ABC PLEASE skill.
Participants will learn the three priorities for interpersonal conversations and the DEARMAN, GIVE, and FAST skills. They will also see how to use role play to teach these skills.
Participants will learn the three traits of a crisis and how to use the distress tolerance scale. They will also learn to teach the skills: STOP, TIPP, ACCEPTS, self-soothing, and IMPROVE. Additionally, they will define radical acceptance and two ways to teach it. They will explain willingness vs. willfulness, turning the mind, and half-smiling with willing hands.
